Support for adults facing difficult life circumstances
Natalia Maćkowiak
I am a certified psychotherapist (cognitive behaviour approach) and an addiction and co-addiction therapist. My mission is to raise awareness regarding mental health and support people on their journey to understanding themselves. I want to accompany them as they start rebuilding their lives – in accordance with their values and the objectives they aim for.
We often think we are alone with our problems. We are unaware that most of us face some kind of struggle. I am certain that when people receive understanding and acceptance through therapy, they can change their lives for the better. I am amazed when I see such changes every day.
Psychotherapy and Addiction Therapy
No matter what you’re struggling with at the moment, you should know one thing – the solution is within you. My aim is to assist you in finding what you have lost. Every person is unique and holds resources to enjoy their life to the fullest. However, sometimes, they need the support of someone who will help them to reclaim their sense of self. To start their life over.
The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction, not a destination.
– Carl Rogers
I support patients with:
Low mood and depression
If you’re succumbing to an overwhelming feeling of hopelessness and you lack motivation or belief in any improvement in your life.
Anxiety
If you’re experiencing an unfounded anxiety – usually due to an unknown reason – with which you cannot cope constructively.
Addictions
If you suspect that you are addicted to substances (such as alcohol, drugs) or destructive behaviours (such as pornography, gambling).
Traumas and post-traumatic stress disorder
If you’ve had a difficult past and have experienced traumatic events which affect your daily life (such as anxiety attacks, nightmares).
Suicidal thoughts and self-harming
If you feel that self-harm is the only thing that can alleviate your suffering, or if you’re experiencing suicidal thoughts.
Phobias
If you’re experiencing an unjustified fear of certain situations, objects, or phenomena, such as leaving home (agoraphobia).
Panic attacks
If you happen to experience sudden episodes of intense fear, tension, discomfort, or frequent heart palpitations for no discernible reason.
Relationship problems
If you cannot reach any agreement with your partner or feel that you have tried everything to improve the situation, but to no avail.
Other mental disorders
Such as: obsessive-compulsive disorder, dissociative disorders, generalised anxiety disorder, anger management.
Work related stress
If you’re experiencing a lot of tension and stress regarding your job – even in unrelated situations.

How can I help you?
Psychotherapy and addiction therapy are conducted within the cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).
Psychotherapy
Maybe you carry childhood traumas (such as a violent parent or one abusing alcohol). Maybe you’re experiencing some long-term sadness, anxiety, or depression disorders. Maybe you want to broaden your relational awareness with yourself and others. Maybe you feel that you are stuck or go round in circles and are not able to help yourself. I am here to find the causes of such a situation and develop a solution that will help you feel better.
Addiction therapy
This therapy is aimed at adults who have noticed addiction symptoms or have already been diagnosed as addicted. I support clients addicted to substances (such as alcohol, drugs or food consumption) as well as addictive behaviours (sex, shopping, pornography, gambling). I also help people who are already abstinent but still have not developed healthy techniques to cope with stress and other difficult emotions, or fear relapsing.
What is cognitive-behavioural therapy?
Cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) is one of the most effective therapies in the world. Research shows that it yields very positive results for at least 75% of people who have attended sessions regularly.
In cognitive-behavioural therapy the client is the driving force, and the therapist is an active companion in their discovery of their own needs and desires. You are the one who sets the therapy objectives and attempts to meet them. My task is to conduct a motivating dialogue and discover what may hold you back on this journey.
Together, we will try to find the best solution in any given situation. I select suitable techniques that will allow you to overcome your trauma and resolve your problems faster, regardless of their severity or cause.
Give yourself a chance for a better life
Deciding to start psychotherapy is a great step towards a better life. Book the first consultation and start this process with my support.

How can I be certain that therapy is the solution for me?
Many of my clients were initially concerned whether their problem was ‘big’ enough to seek therapeutic help. Such people have often had erroneous stereotypes and other misconceptions instilled in them regarding reaching out for psychological help. For example:
- They assume that if they continue working and operate in a relatively normal manner, it means that things are not ‘that bad’.
- They suppose that if they do not experience significantly negative consequences of their behaviour (such as drinking alcohol or taking drugs) it means that they do not need support and can cope with it on their own.
- They are convinced that therapy is for the weak, or for those who cannot cope at all.
- They think that therapy is a solution for the ‘insane.’
However, I am going to go out on a limb and say that at some stage of their life every person may find themselves in a difficult situation when they will need an experienced specialist’s help. Almost everyone tends to have intrusive thoughts at some point or exhibit behaviours that are hard to explain and can be potentially inhibitory or make life more difficult.
We often think that we are alone with our problems without being aware that most people struggle with their own issues as well – they either hide it or refuse to recognise it. Therefore, if you’re considering reaching out to a professional, then yes, your problem is valid enough to seek such support.
I lack strength to fight, and I fear I will not manage. Does starting therapy involve stepping out of my comfort zone? How long will it last?
You must know that as humans we have been biologically programmed to always feel safe. Stepping out of the comfort zone is inherently difficult. But in therapy YOU ARE IN FULL CONTROL, and I will never force you to step out of your comfort zone. I adjust the pace to make the client comfortable. Every decision is your choice. I provide unconditional support – even if you decide to stay in your safe comfort zone.
It is also worth acknowledging the fact that even though your brain does not like them, changes are the best way to lead a better life: just the way you want to. As a therapist I will support you at every stage of this process to minimise the occasional discomfiture. The brief awkwardness of starting therapy will bring lasting, positive changes to your life. Remember that standing still and doing nothing will leave you suffering.
